Revival

I have been completely inspired this weekend to revive some old furniture. My sister threw out a set of stacking coffee tables to go to a charity shop and I rescued them. I thought at some point I may want to paint them and apparently today was the day I decided to do so!

I started off by sanding them down, just enough to break to varnish, then gave them a wipe over with some white spirit, then I began to paint. So far I have only done the undercoat as I am trying to decide what colour I want to paint them, but so far so good! I'm quite pleased with myself, I think I may have found my new vocation in life...

I'd love to own a shop that sells reinvented furniture and little gifts. Mum and Dad make some fabulous cake stands made up of old plates, I think we may be onto a winner! I was on a bit of a roll with the tables that I decided to give my old French dresser a face lift too.
It had always been very 'shabby chic' and needed a bit of tarting up, so I have given this a new undercoat and will paint it the same colour as my coffee tables when I decide what to go for. My dresser also has a beautiful reddish marble top which is buried somewhere in the garage.

I will post a photo of it in its complete state once it is finished. Anyway see below some pics of what I have done so far. Not to bad for an amateur?

The Chequers @ Burcot

I thought i would write a quick review on a gastro pub i went to on Tuesday night for dinner.  It is The Chequers in Burcot, Oxfordshire.

Went for dinner with my lovely old colleagues Carolyn & Iain from my old workplace to catch up before the wedding.

I was early to arrive, so i got myself a glass of pinot rose, £4.50, lovely wineglass btw, and sat myself down in a comfy leather sofa in front of a real fire.  A real fire in JULY I tell you!  Who would have thought it!

We were seated in a C shaped booth, received complimentary breadsticks, oil & vinegar while we gossiped and decided what to choose from quite frankly a super menu.

I decided on:

BUTTERNUT SQUASH LASAGNE
Butternut squash, goat’s cheese,  tomato, red onion,
basil & balsamic salad, mixed leaf & truffle salad. 13.50
Served in 3 separate dishes on a wooden chopping board.

And for afters:

A Rhubarb Eton Mess topped with those sweets in tiny pieces that crackle!! served in a martini glass, £6.50

Service was good, food was incredible, and will be returning, still dreaming about the lasagne.... nom nom nom

Virgin Blogger

Hello all, I thought I would give this blogging malarkey a try. As you can probably tell I am a Virgin Blogger so am trying to get to grips with what i should post and what not to post.  I promise the blogs will get better and more exciting as time goes on...

My blog blusher & brownies is going to be about me and all the things i love.  I am like a magpie and love anything sparkly, and i have a bit of an addiction to cosmetics etc.  I'm getting married in 7 weeks, so i suspect there will lots of blogging about that, apologies in advance.

Anyway, Happy Friday, and i will leave you on the cutest of cute pictures that made my morning...
